You may have noticed that this blog has been pretty inactive lately.
We’ll try to do something about that (no promises, though).
September was hectic as we got going with the 2010 2011 season. There’s still a lot of interest in speed skating after the Olympics last winter. We had close to 100 inquiries about our Introduction to Speed Skating sessions, and so far a couple of dozen people have signed up for that. And 17 new members have joined the club. Our Open House on September 18th was a success; there was quite a crowd on the ice.
This will be a challenging year as we transition into the Long Term Participant and Athlete Development (LTPAD) model adopted by Speed Skate Canada. I’ll try to summarize what that means for our club in future posts.
One important rule change needs to be highlighted: eye protection is now required by SSC as part of our safety equipment. We need to get equipped. Think of safety glasses the same way as you think of your helmet, neck guard, knee pads, shin pads, and gloves — and don’t go on the ice without it.
See you on the ice.
